Project overview

Petzy is a user-friendly mobile application designed to help pet owners manage their pets’ health, profiles, and daily routines. From vet visit reminders to photo memories, the app makes it easy for users to stay organized and connected with their pets.

PROBLEM

Pet owners face disorganization with multiple calendars, photo galleries, and notes to keep track of their pets. This results in missed vet appointments, unclear pet documentation, and no ideal place to manage pets' information.

GOAL

Design a simple, joyful, and easy-to-use app that helps pet owners:

  • Track appointments, vaccinations, and grooming schedules

  • Organize pet details and photos

  • Receive reminders for birthdays and milestones

  • Celebrate their pets in a warm, engaging space

COMPETITIVE ANALYSIS

To understand the current state of pet care apps and find opportunities for improvement, I explored several existing solutions, along with their strengths and weaknesses.

PetTracks - Pet Management

What it Does Well:

  • Tracks vet visits, reminders, and grooming schedules

  • Offers a document hub for storing medical records

What it Lacks / Frustrations from Users:

  • Interface feels crowded with too many tabs

  • Limited flexibility in personalizing reminders and features

PetNotePlus

What it Does Well:

  • Strong logging capabilities (health data, diet, expenses, diaries)

  • Supports multiple species, not just cats and dogs

What it Lacks / Frustrations from Users:

• Usability issues reported (photo orientation bugs, unclear sharing options)

  • Some features locked behind paywalls

  • Less emphasis on playful or fun features

USER PERSONA

KEY NEEDS IDENTIFIED

From the gaps observed in the user persona and existing mobile applications, I identified key user needs to guide Petzy’s design:

  • Centralized pet information – a single page for health, reminders, and memories.

  • Personalized reminders – flexible options for vet visits, birthdays, and milestones.

  • Clutter-free experience – a simple, visually clean interface that doesn’t overwhelm.

  • Emotional connection – design elements that celebrate pets as companions, not just responsibilities.

LOW-FIDELITY WIREFRAMES

I began with low-fidelity wireframes to explore layout options and navigation structure. The focus was on keeping the bottom navigation simple and ensuring flexibility in onboarding (with a ‘Skip for Now’ option). This early stage in development helped me test user flows before adding any visual design.

HIGH-FIDELITY WIREFRAMES

Petzy was designed to reflect the love and joy of pet ownership while solving practical challenges. Through research and design iteration, I created a warm, intuitive app that makes caring for pets easier and more fun.

Visual Design & Branding

The high-fidelity designs use a warm palette of light orange and pink, paired with rounded typography and playful iconography. These choices create a friendly, approachable aesthetic that reflects the joy of pet ownership while remaining easy to navigate.

Usability & Accessibility

Layouts were simplified to reduce cognitive load, with clear bottom navigation and consistent spacing. The design prioritizes legibility through strong contrast and clean typography, ensuring the interface is both intuitive and accessible for a broad user base.

Feature Highlights

Each screen was designed with functionality in mind: reminders for vet visits and milestones, editable pet profiles, and a built-in photo hub for memories. These features directly address user needs for organization, personalization, and emotional connection.
